Glossary of Terms

Business Process Management (BPM)- is a way of looking at and then controlling the processes that are present in an organization. It combines technical tools and management discipline to improve how is work done, resulting in highly automated processes that help people provide better products and service and deliver better business results.

Cloud Computing - a term used to describe a wide range of technologies, which are accessible through a high speed connection to the internet and private networks.

Electronic Content Management (ECM) - a formalized means of organizing and storing an organization's documents, and other content that relates to the organization's processes. Document Management System (DMS) - is a computer system (or set of computer programs used to track and store electronic documents and/or images of paper documents.

Document Imaging - capturing paper-based information and convert it to electronic images that are stored in a computer electronically.

Enterprise Ready – Ensuring compliance and interoperability with IT infrastructure and applications.

Point of Origination – Capturing content at the initiation point of a business process.

Touchless Processing – Eliminating or minimizing human intervention throughout a business process.

Workflow Management System- is a computer system that manages and defines a series of tasks within an organization to produce a final outcome or outcomes. Workflow Management Systems allow you to define different workflows for different types of jobs or processes. So, for example, in a manufacturing setting, a design document might be automatically routed from designer to a technical director to the production engineer. At each stage in the workflow, one individual or group is responsible for a specific task. Once the task is complete, the workflow software ensures that the individuals responsible for the next task are notified and receive the data they need to execute their stage of the process. Workflow management systems also automate redundant tasks and ensure uncompleted tasks are followed up. Workflow management systems may control automated processes in addition to replacing paper workorder transfers.

TIF Document - Photos are typically saved as BMP, JPEG, or GIF, but other photo formats are used to expand functionality or for a specific program. One of these formats is the TIF format. TIF stands for Tagged Image File and is often labeled as TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) as well. The format is compatible with a lot of software programs, and while it will probably never be as popular as JPEG or GIF, TIF is commonly used in the graphics world.
